About The Artwork

This is a painting about movement through the landscape and through space. It started with an uneven grid, set out like a lattice and the painting on top was inspired by the changing landscape travelling up a mountainous hill in Liguria Italy. The title derives from the fact that I was finishing the painting on 5 August 2012 which was the 50th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's death. The image became one that was about a mysterious escape from some tethering device (the grid) and I can see her floating off into space.
