Art Description

Painting: Wood, Acrylic, Enamel, Wax, Oil on Wood.

This piece is packed full of arty symbolism and meaning. It’s really a combination about fertility, pregnancy, preparing to be a parent and of course being one.

The curves are my partners belly and the growing star inside. Beyond that, is actually inside the belly. Where the star grows to its capacity and environment and this is where my son helped with some drawing.

The pink and blue shapes are ‘boy’ and ‘girl’ with the framing dark blue shapes added to balance the composition.

As I’m now surrounded in brightly coloured blocks and other colourful shapes, I purposely simplified the painting into something a child might like. Or even a child might create.

Watching my son draw was amazing. How he chose colours, how he drew hard and soft in different areas and especially how he moved and explored around the board.

At the time of this painting he’s 14 months and I think it was a successful collaboration. But at the very least, it was fun!
