Norway
I have always expressed myself through drawing and painting, and I have been trained as a decorator. My style of expression is imaginative and playful. My pieces present stories full of symbolism for the viewer to interpret. The relationships between the many characters in my imagery creates riddles and tension that the onlooker can imagine stories to.The style presented is often humorous, with an underlying melancholic touch. I grew up in Frosta, a village just north of Trondheim, Norway My real name is Bente Riseth , but upon having an exhibition in London 2007, the idea of a psydonym more user friendly to an international audience started forming. From there on I signed all my work Gloria Fabel. My childhood ... both my dad and my grandad were merchants by trade, this was exciting growing up, being rigth next door to the familys shop. Ever since I can remember, drawing and painting were central aspects in my life. I would spend hours on the kitchenfloor, doing my drawings. My grandmother, who lived with us, understood the importance of this and would encourage me, and tell my parents: "Let the girl do her drawings, its important to her". Upon finishing secondary school I wanted to go to art school, but my dad refused, stating that the life of an artist was to unstable, and that only high school would give his daughters a wortwhile education. So, I started high school. But the urge to be creative surfaced again and again over the years, and I retrained in the decorative field, mainly doing calligraphy, window and poster design. I would work freelance, decorating furniture and various objects for people, and from 1990 I started painting alongside this. In 2005 I started the gallery 'Galleri Tautra', on the island Tautra north of Trondheim. Alongside running the gallery (+many different artists and medias) I had a studio that was held open for the public. In 2010 I closed down the gallery and moved my studio home. During 2009 I became a member of the 'Norwegian drawing Association and the Norwegian visual artists association, and was the same year signed to the New York based gallery 'A.Jain Marunouchi gall
