ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Portrait of a boy from Mozambique on his daily walk for water. This painting questions what will happen to this boy and his community when the well runs dry. This is a reference both to clean drinking water and an emotional and spiritual dryness. Part of my "For the Least of These" series bringing attention to those who need food and clean water. My intention is to challenge the viewer to ask themselves what they are doing "for the least of these". The limited color palette is used to echo the limited resources those in poverty have. The background is built up with a palette knife technique and layers of paint to symbolize the passage of time.

Her work as a therapist informed her artwork as she learned more about how thought, emotion and behavior intersect in everyday life.
