White, Grey, and Black. Painting

This work explores language and our use of different meanings from one word or idea. "White" is associated with purity or goodness, "Grey" with an indistinct meaning, "Black or darkness with evil or bad. They also exist in a hierarchy so the monotone white section in the “White” panel is raised proud of the surface, the monotoned grey section in “Grey is simply additional layers of paint so only microns of difference from the painted background. The monotoned black panel is set about 1/8” back from the painting not touching the painted panel, this comes from a discussion I had with a practice nurse once about depression, and she said there comes a time when you become so detached from reality that it is difficult to come back, the space although small alludes to what for many is a chasm. On each of the monotone areas in each panel is written the words “White”, “Grey” and “Black” they are very difficult to see but can be seen on close inspection, they are panted with the same colour but slightly thicker medium so that as the light hits the words from certain angles, they stand out briefly.
