ABOUT THE ARTWORK
To paint this majestic animal I used the traditional Grisaille technique. This is a slow but rewarding process of painting in oils. I paint one layer at a time. I slowly build up the layers. As I do this the lion becomes more detailed. This lion has such a thick mane of hair that it demanded more layers to build up the 'thickness' in the hair. Each hair is individually painted with much patients. I plan to produce at least 12 paintings of wild cats at this size and composition. This is the second cat. The first was a Snow Leopard.
