About The Artwork

Who has never fallen in love with a story told through art? This work is part of a series whose title is “Figura Encena Sobre Facas e Tecidos”, inspired by the study of one of the icons of Art History: “Judith decapitating Holofernes”, by the painter Artemísia Gentileschi. My interest in this painting, which portrays an iconographic theme, is at first, more for its formal aspects, such as color contrasts and painting processes. Then, I try to understand how these elements become drama. The research of my work advances when photographic details of scenarios that I assemble start to speak for themselves.I try to bring the dramatic to contemporary painting, using new staged photography, strong contrasts of color and unusual details. The wide screen title is a reference to the format of the cinema screen.

Odette Boudet is a visual artist from Rio de Janeiro. In 2018 she moved to Porto, Portugal. Master in Plastic Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (2022) and Graduated in cinema from Federal Fluminense University (1988), she has been dedicated to painting since 2011. The artist-researcher has presented her production in the cultural scene of the north of Portugal and in Brazil. The research in painting begins with the theme of movement, displacement and affective memory, through the metaphor of a suitcase. The theme expands to the relationships between the space of painting and the cinema screen, where she finds arguments to address current issues such as immigration and violence. Thought and gesture are crossed by a camera.
