Contact us.My work explores the quiet relationship between abstraction and the natural environment. Working primarily in acrylic, I create textured paintings inspired by water, plant life, and the subtle structures found within natural ecosystems.
Rather than depicting broad landscapes or recognizable scenes, my paintings focus on intimate fragments of natural environments. A cluster of lily pads floating on water, a passage of grasses moving through light, or the shifting patterns across a pond’s surface become the foundation for the work. These elements represent contained moments within larger ecosystems—places where balance, movement, and stillness exist simultaneously.
My lily pad paintings, as well as my grass compositions, investigate these living systems by isolating small environments within the larger landscape. By narrowing the viewer’s focus to these contained spaces, the work invites closer observation of the relationships between water, plant life, light, and surface.
My process is highly physical. Rather than relying heavily on brushes, I build the surface of the painting through layered applications of acrylic paint, shaping and moving the material directly across the canvas and occasionally working with palette knives to create structure and depth. The surface evolves gradually through cycles of adding, reshaping, and refining paint until the composition finds its equilibrium.
Texture plays a central role in the work. The dimensional surface allows light to interact with the painting, revealing different visual experiences as the viewer moves around it.
Through these focused observations of nature, my work reflects a deep respect for the quiet complexity of living environments. By isolating these intimate ecosystems, the paintings encourage viewers to slow down, look closely, and recognize the subtle patterns and balance that exist within the natural world.
