Art Description

Painting: Oil on Canvas.

Taking Manet's 1880 portrait of a Woman With A Cat as her starting point, when both sitters seem to pose calm and composed, Holly Frean imagines what the same scene looked like moments before the artist caught them - perhaps during a break. Sitting for a portrait can be, after all, very strenuous work!
