Woman in a landscape number 2 Painting

This painting is a part of an ongoing theme that I am continually exploring based on the representation of man and woman as two distinct shapes, 'the line' and 'the square'. Man is represented by a line or if you like, an elongated square or rectangle. Woman is represented by a square, or as in mathematical terms, 'a special case of a rectangle'. Inspiration for these particular works comes from a life long fascination with minimalism, symbolism and colour-alchemy. 'Woman in a landscape number 2' is a minimalist painting of a woman presented centrally in an abstract landscape of equally balanced sky and earth. The stark, hard-edge shapes and use of colour evoke a certain atmosphere. This could be interpreted as a woman being alone or maybe she is separated from her family or lover? That said, the rose coloured square also communicates a more positive stance. Instead, the woman has an ambient glow and hovers in a rich sienna sky with a blue field of light beneath her. Whatever is evoked, due to the composition being so very pure, a viewer may interpret this painting how ever they wish. Finally, it is painted on paper because the fragility of this material represents the condition of human non-permanence. Art work: Original painting Medium: Acrylic paint on heavy weight paper Art movement influences: Minimalism and Colour-field Characteristics: Hard-edge, flat colour with with very subtle surface textures. Presentation: The sides of the painting (which is on paper) has a very finely hand torn edge and is adhered to a high quality fibre-base paper backing. This backing acts as a 4 cm white border around the actual painting. Painting size: 71 x 53 x 0.1 cm Frame external edge: 77 x 59 x 1.3 cm Frame: Wooden frame / black finish / super clear acrylic glazing. Note on glazing: The super clear acrylic glazing provided in the frame is a good alternative to glass. It can also be easily removed if the collector desires to use real framing glass. The painting also looks excellent with-out any glazing at all, it is just a matter of the collectors preference. Glass is not provided initially, due to the possibility of breakage during the shipping process. Hanging hardware: Supplied but not attached to frame in case different hanging methods are required by collector. Packaging: Gallery standard wrapped and protected with acid free sheeting and robust packaging material.
