About The Artwork

Near the Sea of Japan, just at dusk, a woman in black with her red umbrella walks through deep snow, past fish-drying racks, to her fishing cabin. She'll build a small fire and spend the evening mending nets so she'll be ready when the weather warms. I was struck by the simplicity of this scene, where her deep footsteps hold a quiet conversation with the vast expanse of snow and cold gray sky. Homage á Hiroshige.
