Woman sleeping Painting

Woman sleeping is a work created on a dropcloth salvaged from the Perth Museum and reconstructed as part of a series of works called 12 Faces which is to be exhibited later this year at Nyisztor Studio in Melville. My practice involves using waste materials and this was an opportunity to work on a large scale transferring sketches made on flights between Auckland and Perth from a small to large size.I had been interested to see what some of these drawings looked like when painted onto different surfaces and was able to create 3 pictures from this one dropcloth. I hope viewers will feel the ennui of flying and the sense of being in the clouds. I chose this style of framing because of the relative ease of handling for both exhibiting and transporting. The piece can be rolled up and stored easily as well as moved. The subject matter is a progression of my past and current interest of drawing people i see but in this instance the cramped conditions in airplanes meant i had some stationary subjects absorbed in their own worlds.
