Working the Land Painting

This painting is representing a time past - a time when heavy horses ploughed the land. I live in the Far North of Scotland where there are many empty old crofts and once upon a time these would have been full of life and animals. I always wonder about who lived in the empty crofts and how hard life must have been back then. In the stable on my old croft there used to be two heavy horses who pulled the plough and turned the land. I know this as I have listened with fascination to stories by a neighbour and old Shepherd 'Johnny Gunn' (now 93 years old) who's family used to live in my wee croft house. I like hearing stories about the old days and the crofters and community life. This is where this painting came from.
