About The Artwork
In my work I paint people, architecture, plants, animals and patterns that are so unique and characteristic of the country of Yemen where I grew up as a child. Some picture are based on childhood memories. One time, high in the eucalyptus tree in our garden in Yemen, a Yemen Chameleon was hidden among the leafs of the tree. He was hardly noticeable because of its camouflage. The chameleon was noticed however by a boy who with his slingshot hit the poor animal with a stone.The next day I found the chameleon on the ground underneath the eucalyptus tree in our garden. This little drama made a deep impression on me then.

I am fascinated by the diversity expressed in patterns and forms both in living creatures and the artistic expressions derived from them. I paint those things that could end up disappearing as they are under threat of globalization, environmental degradation and conflict.
