About The Artwork

"City View" is a part of "Lost Summer" series. Last summer I worked on a series of small paintings. My task was to capture my state in the surrounding events. The post-quarantine devastation led to an obsession with the search for meaning of life, and the only way out was to rejoice and look for beauty in the little things. I spent this summer at my parents' house, where I lived every summer, when I was a child. This layering of past and present events inevitably led to nostalgia, which I reflected in the plots of the paintings. Two inspired me to create this painting - Henri Rousseau and my dog Zombie. On her very first walk down the street, Zombie saw tall wild grass and began to run and play in it. The grass was so tall it almost looked like trees compared to my dog. And Zombie was so playful and furious that she was practically a tiger from the rainforest. It was then that the painting "Tigre dans une tempête tropicale" by Henri Rousseau surfaced in my subconscious. Ardently loving his work, I decided to create such an homage.

Artist Nadia Kazakovtseva began her art career as a child: the first exhibition, she took a part in, was at the State Hermitage Museum during the cultural program "Classical Days" in 2007. The desire to develop in the fine arts led her to the St. Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design to the department of sculpture in 2016. There she combines academic projects with creative search. That is why she decided to spend a semester at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin, focusing on creating contemporary art projects. Nowadays she works on a research project dedicated to the "proto-object" and "post-object". Stopping at different stages of creation and destruction of the artworks, she balances on the verge between perfection of the form and natural accident. Works from this project were presented in July 2019 at the exhibition on the GAMMA Festival. Nadia also participated in the exhibitions "Light and Form", "Awakening", "Feel On/Off" and in the others exhibitions at the Stieglitz Academy of Art and Design. Also she took a part in online exhibitions "Hold On" and "Home Adventure".
