Zulu Warrior Painting

Karen is a new emerging, self-taught artist, specialising in modern and abstract art. She takes inspiration from a variety of figures, genres and artists such as Picasso, Miro and Matisse who have played an influential role in finding her own style and form of expression. Having grown up in South Africa, her work often demonstrates hidden traces of cultural influences from lively colours, dark outlines and tribal configurations. Art has always been a passion for Karen since she was little, having started selling her art at the age of nine. She has continued her love for art and developed a style true to her own ever since. Painting with acrylics on large canvases is a favourite, using thick brush strokes, simple outlines and an array of bright colours. Over the past 2years Karen has sold and exhibited at an international contemporary art gallery in Napoli, Italy where she also featured in several magazines, online articles and books. Her work was recently printed and sold on a T.shirt through global fashion brand UNIQLO after winning a competition to support artists with disabilities. Bruxelles Avenue recently awarded Karen with a top 80 painter award in their 2022 Annual Art Awards and featured her work in their winning catalogue. In 2023, she exhibited at Peterborough Cathedral for their ‘Made in 2022’ exhibition, which saw over 8,000 visitors in just under 4 weeks.
