About The Artwork
This painting was born from my WILD WOMEN Collection. This collection is composed of "visual journals" birthed from the stories of real women, living boldly, freely and wildly. It is designed to elevate the voices of women defying their oppression and bravely sharing their story, in a world where we are conditioned to stay quiet, small and not take up space. Each artwork is co-created with her journal responses about what it means to be "wild" in our modern day society. Each mark, color and composition is chosen to represent her unique story, like a finger print. I hope the viewer will experience a state of calm, curiosity and wonder. My intention of leaving large moments of negative space is to give the viewer space to breathe and be still within their body, even if it's just for a moment. I chose to work with fabric dye and acrylic washes on unprimed canvas to represent the flowing nature of our cycles as women. The softness created by combining these media is therapeutic and gets me into my most intuitive flow-state as the creator.

Courtney Griffin (she/her) is a self-taught mixed media artist living and working in Colorado. Her art career began with illustrations and large scale murals, and her current body of work includes mixed media paintings on all-natural fabrics, specifically silk and canvas.
