I am a contemporary self-taught painter based in Ankara, Turkey, and I also teach Architecture at Gazi University. My artistic journey began in 2007, primarily using oil and occasionally acrylic as a medium. I sometimes incorporate paper layers into my works to create a tectonic appearance. My inspiration comes from the vastness of the universe—the infinite combinations of plants, geology, and minerals on and beneath the earth, and the diverse forms, colors, and textures of planets and nebulae above. I am also deeply influenced by the historical impact of artists like Doesburg, Mondrian, Kandinsky, Ozenfant, and Picasso on architecture, which has shaped my artistic style. As an architect who has transitioned into abstract painting, my architectural background significantly influences my artwork. This manifests in a sketch-like, palimpsest, cinematic, and flexible quality in my paintings. Similar to an architect's iterative sketching process, I build my canvases layer by layer without a fixed final idea, often leading to surprising outcomes. This layering process makes my work akin to a palimpsest. Furthermore, many of my paintings are designed to be displayed together, with transitional colors and styles creating a cinematic flow that allows them to form cohesive groups. I also create my works with no definite hanging direction, often rotating the canvas during creation, which offers a broader perspective and makes the final piece flexible, with even small rotations significantly altering its feel. This is particularly evident in my circular pieces. I began creating art because I am captivated by colors, seeing them even with my eyes closed. The color compositions in nature, cities, interiors, and even accessories deeply fascinate me, and my artwork is a way to expand these compositions in my life. The joy I experience during the creative process and the sense of communicating with the universe are why I continue to paint, finding art to be a direct path between the universe and my consciousness. Outside of my painting, I have a deep passion for Argentine Tango, having been a dedicated tanguera for seven years. I have also reflected my abstract art style in accessories such as rings and earrings, showcasing a diverse color palette and mixtures. Best regards, Nazan KIRCI
