ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work is a formal abstract painting, in other words, an abstract painting that is concerned with things like space and light while maintaining the two dimensional identity of pure abstraction. The colors and shapes are informed by the vernacular language of graphic design and sign painting- I find this to be an interesting modality, the synthesis of fine and applied arts. The piece is comprised of segments of shaped panel that have been painted and collaged with painted paper and canvas, with seams left conspicuous for the purpose of unifying a very broad range of color, motif and mark-making. . . William LaChance was recently listed among Artnet's index of top 500 American Artists born 1966 or after and was recently invited to exhibit at Berlin's prestigious Direktorenhaus Museum
