Utah 1869 the "golden spike" was ceremoniously driven to connect the first transcontinental railroad across the United States. The tension and violence between railroad owners, Irish and Chinese laborers, Native Americans and the harsh environments of the American West inspired this painting.

Born 1974, Ogden, Utah. Lives and works in Victor, Idaho, US. I am self-taught and enjoy the clumsy process of learning how different materials work. I started spending a significant amount of time painting about 10 years ago after a knee surgery. Making art has become an important part of my life, which I plan on doing until the end of it. My paintings are open ended. I start with a rough idea and hack away until I get somewhere satisfying. I work on two or three pieces at the same time, painting in layers to build texture and history. The majority my ideas and images come from the western United States, particularly small towns in Utah. Any meaning or symbolism in my paintings happens organically.
