Under the sign of Corona, for us inlanders, the sea has become more distant than ever. The cheap, off-the-peg recreational destination from the travel agency - from package week to party cruise - has once again become something unattainable for the moment, something selectly exotic. When the over-excited hypermodernity stands still, abused nature suddenly comes to the fore. But what about beneath the surface, which beckons with swells and silences and responds to our barbaric desecration with patience until it covers our unshakable trust in imperturbability with storm and tide and hurricane? "mare nostrum" was created by applying paper and paint, removing color, and applying it again - purposefully and free-flowing. The texture thus created, layer by layer, gives the painting its peacefully menacing depth. A final layer of varnish applied protects the artwork from light and dust. • Original artwork - one of a kind • Acrylic on canvas • 100x70 cm • Signed on the edge and dated with the year of creation • Comes with a certificate of authenticity

Being an artist helps me connect with the world, classify experiences, arrive - An act of searching and an act of understanding. With watercolor and ink, charcoal, graphite, pastel, and acrylics, I explore the boundaries and transitions. My artistic origins lie in figurative painting. However, it is and was never about illustrating the visible to me. I want to go into depth. I have found that the more I abstract, the more concretely I am able to represent what I want to express. Both my figurative and abstract paintings benefit from this apparent contradiction. I paint to discover, simplify and understand what is important, true, or relevant. What lies beneath is the enduring theme of my work. My artistic gaze is focused primarily on the most vulnerable spot. This is probably common to all my paintings, regardless of the subject. This spot I want to cherish, flatter, protect - or also highlight. I am moved by personal, emotional - but also social and societal issues. Transience, defenselessness, the struggle for identity and dignity, the loss or destruction of the alive are, among other things, the topics that impose themselves on me, that demand my voice - and my voice is the color. My entire approach is characterized by immediacy. I work intuitively, letting myself be guided. In my abstract works even more than in figurative paintings. I experiment with different materials, apply the paint layer by layer in glazes. Therefore, the light can penetrate the different layers and is reflected from the depth. The light thus becomes part of the work of art.
