About The Artwork
We found Maori Tim at the backpackers hostel and brought him in to help mix concrete for our bench tops. He was an irresistible character to paint, full of rude humour and Maori polemic. When I asked him to pose he rushed to the bucket of concreting water and splashed it all over himself, so he would glisten.. His head was shaved at the back except for a strip up the middle. He claimed he could only afford half a haircut..

I was born in England and studied illustration at Bath Academy of Art 1979-1983. I worked as a freelance illustrator until moving to Australia in 2006. I now illustrate less and paint more. In 2016 I won the inaugural Robert Juniper prize for landscape painting, in 2017 won the painting category at the Darlington festival and in 2018 was runner-up in the Collie art prize
