For «War is Peace» show Visual images accompany power during all the period of its existence. National symbols, architectural styles, decorative arts write history, becoming the signs of different generations. In the common day life it is difficult to estimate the full potency of the visual language surrounding us and realize its influence. Advertising, design, architecture daily not only form the concept of beauty and ugliness, but also are the means of ideology and propaganda. Contemporary art believes in its capability to analyze the situation, but it underestimates the market and government’s capability to appropriate the artistic language. Thus, the concept of modern art easily transforms into one of the symbols of democracy and liberal view, and in human history we see numerous examples of individual artistic discovery transforming into mass production. Paul Solovyev in his exhibition creates, in its way, a retrospective of image transformation. His place as an artist is somewhere between the history of art, the madness of the daily life and the culture of design. Today any artist in Russia is not only witnessing the battle of various propaganda streams, his/her view is formed in the collision of fighting powers, where there are no winners. An artist in this position can only be a loser, but a loser accepting it and trying to see in it a grain of common sense.

My work explores and exploits the phenomenon of destruction and the ideologization of the image in nobrow mass culture. Subcultural and iconic signs mutate in my works, transfigurating or even transgressing in the flow of the sacral, mystic, political and advertising symbols. My interest origins in my advertising industry background where I held the key positions at the digital & classic agencies (BBDO, Proximity, LOWE), won and judged local and international advertising festivals. I believe it is important to be an universal, multidisciplinary artist, equally powerful both in non-spectacular interventions into an urban or natural environment and in classical gallery spaces. The key extension of my practice is the work with the idea of clothing as media and conceptual art within the «LOVE» clothing, the brand I established in 2017.
