ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Trippy eyes? Paranoid? Evil eye? Third eye? Five eyes? or artistic eyes? I wanted to do a fun, simple, whimsical piece about eyes and their significance in this and other realms. This was so much fun to do! I truly enjoyed creating it. My motivation for this piece is I hope you look closely at this piece so it may awaken your already awakened inner eyes. (; What is it about eyes? The eyes see everything or do they? One of my favorite quotes from Dogen is also one of his weirdest. It goes like this. “(In the) words of the ancient, ‘the whole universe in the ten directions is one eye,’ and furthermore, there are thousands of eyes on the tips of the fingers, there are thousands of eyes of right Dharma, there are thousands of eyes in the ears, there are thousands of eyes on the tip of the tongue, there are thousands of eyes on the tip of the mind, there are thousands of eyes of the thoroughly realized mind, there are thousands of eyes of the thoroughly realized body, there are thousands of eyes on top of a stick, there are thousands of eyes in the moment before the body, there are thousands of eyes in the moment before the mind, there are thousands of eyes of death in death, there are thousands of eyes of liveliness in liveliness, there are thousands of eyes of the self, there are thousands of eyes of the external world, there are thousands of eyes in the concrete place of eyes, there are thousands of eyes of learning in practice, there are thousands of eyes aligned vertically, and there are thousands of eyes aligned horizontally.” This excerpt comes from an essay titled Mujou Seppou. When Jesus healed a blind man, he asked him, "Do you see anything?" The man replied, "I see men as trees walking". He could see, but he was confused . Jesus touched his eyes again; then he saw clearly; he had not only sight, but insight, to make sense of what he saw (Mark 8:22-26). In this physical reality the eye sees yet it's what the mind comprehends according to one's sanskaras. Sanskara are dispositions, character or behavioral traits, that exist as default from birth or prepared and perfected by a person over one's lifetime, that exist as imprints on the subconscious according to various schools of Hindu philosophy such as the Yoga school. These perfected or default imprints of karma within a person, influences that person's nature, response and states of mind.

Manisha Sharma is an Indo-American full-time artist, poet, author, and spiritual thinker with ethnic roots from India. Being born in India the abode of spirituality, and immigrating to the United States she feels blessed to have experienced the best of both worlds, and is enjoying her journey as an artist and a humanitarian. Manisha firmly believes "everyone of us has the potential to be creative and to harness and express our innate wisdom and creativity.” Her inspiration comes from the beauty of living and says we live in a "Creative Universe" that itself is a work of art, filled with masterpieces of rivers, stars, mountains, children, clouds, flowers, animals, people, technology and simply life. Manisha leaves the interpretations of her works for the viewer to decide, and invites her audience to do some soul searching when viewing her art. She defines herself as an integral part of the wider global culture of conscious creativity. She reminds everyone to watch carefully what we allow into our minds and bodies, to be aware of the importance of healthy food production, cooking, eating and spiritual practices, being aware of how our daily actions (and “diets” of foods and ideas) influence our thoughts and transform our consciousness. Manisha encourages everyone to break free of toxic influences and take charge consciously. To develop our own creative potential and live in tune with the wisdom of nature. She creates her art with the use of acrylics, oils, charcoals, inks, pastels, organic paints, and digital mediums. She describes her works as a blend of Spirituality and Conscious Art. Manisha loves using vibrant colors in her compositions and says it energizes her soul. She firmly believes that colors can evoke passionate feelings and emotions and can be used as tools in unblocking one's own kundalini energy otherwise suppressed or blocked unconsciously in the various chakras. "Colors in nature or art are therapeutic and can be used as healing therapy to revive and rejuvenate the soul." Manisha is never afraid to try new color combinations in her compositions, and allows the process itself to guide her in her works. Her abstract art is more intuitive and she likes to explore different styles of art rather than restrict her creativity to one style.
