About The Artwork

Warm russets and muted ochres accentuate the bold black marks of these paintings on 300 lb. paper. The repeating pattern of slate-gray squares creates a textural structure for the multiple color layers while the black bands push forward to balance each composition. NOTE: The 300 lb. (640 gsm) paper (acid-free, archival) substrate is thick: Each piece was gessoed on both sides, and after creative completion, it received a final varnish coating (both sides) for added protection. The paintings feature a crisp one-inch border. This provides more framing options such as standard matting and framing, or float-mounting in a frame to highlight the deckled edges. (Frame not included; will be shipped flat).

STATEMENT: My acrylic mixed-media paintings on paper and canvas explore connection and diversity. I join familiar elements with ambiguous abstractions to create paintings that express the strong connection that exists among seemingly disconnected things. My creative process is both planned and spontaneous. I use color, line, and texture in an intricate way, and sweep bold marks across individual hand-painted paper paintings that I tear and use in my canvas art, painted in a more subtle and minimal way. As I add, intersect, and overlap elements, a cohesive and complementary presence emerges, giving visual confirmation of our differences and how they so often enhance our connectedness. /// BIO: Abstract painter Cynthia Coldren explores the concept of connection and diversity through her mixed-media paintings on paper and canvas. Using paint, paper, ink, crayon, and pencil, she creates abstract art that expresses the sense of connection that exists in diversity. Cynthia lives in Richardson, Texas. She studied fine art as an undergraduate student, transitioning her early representational direction to abstract painting in the last decade. She has received recognition and awards in recent curated art shows and has exhibited her paintings in solo and juried exhibitions both online and in North Texas. She is a member of the Texas Artist Coalition (TAC) and other regional organizations. (www.cynthiacoldrenfineart.com)
