About The Artwork

The power and mystery of the planets and upper atmosphere storms seen from Space is always a fascination and I can only imagine the harsh beauty of our Solar System. Imagining I am a satellite above the planet I use many layers of inks, crushed chalk, mineral pigments, recycled papers, gold leaf, silver leaf, diamond dust and recycled plastic shredded sheeting to create an almost 3 d image. The depth and many layers I use of resin, inks, natural and manmade materials, trapped between the layers of resin build up to create great depthasif looking down on a 3 d surface recycled materials to create real depth to an artwork I really believe in giving the owner of my works real belief happiness, an ability to see something different every time they look at the piece. It is as if it changes every day depending on the light and weather like the planet surface I am imagining. When I see my works over the years in such beautiful houses I feel I have made a connection with people who understand my message and vision which is truly a great feeling after working in such a solitary way. It is a series of up to 10 layers of resin and in each layer I trap colours and rare materials to build an almost 3 dimensional image as if looking through ice or glass to a deeper world underneath. The end to my loneliness is always gazing at the night sky and I then feel peace. We are nothing in the scheme of things and through my work I find people who understand me and the realisation that Time is all powerful in the end

Growing up in a isolated farming community it was fascinating to see the relationship between humans and the landscape. the toiling of the earth and the relationship between water, ice ,heat ,erosion was all around me at a very simple level. The corrosion on the metals from relentless rain on the farm or the slices of rock I found in the valleys formed this obsession with Time as a great creator and destroyer. I had to put this down on paper, the shapes and colours all around. I invented new techniques of creating the textures and layers and the landscapes I loved so much on my travels as an adult. Taking the subject of landscape painting and abstract art and turning it on its head using burning, smashing, layering with raw materials from geology itself such as sand, salt, quartz, diamond dust, gold leaf, iron.crushed precious stones to create an effect of real geological processes. Recyled papers and shredded plastic pieces I find, recycled heated glass are new ways of using our excessive planetary waste to create something beautiful.
