About The Artwork

This was painted after Tracey Emin exhibited her bed with stained sheets, used condoms, wine bottles etc in the Tate gallery for the Turner Prize in 1999. It has been widely reproduced in the media. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Nicholas_Serota_Makes_an_Acquisitions_Decision It is usually seen as a satire, but I for me it was more of an enquiry and discussion. Sarah Kent reviewed it in Time Out as "puerile". Shortly after that, Tracey Emin was in the media complaining that knickers in one of her installations were not the genuine ones. Tracey used to drop in my flat for coffee when she was a student. Later, her insult to her ex, Billy Childish, that he was "stuck" gave me the idea for naming the Stuckist art movement.
