About The Artwork
The inspiration for this painting comes from Kamakura where I lived for 12 years. This traditional city is located on the waterfront not far from Tokyo. One can discover there many temples and sanctuaries, which regularly offer us wonderful Japanese gardens. The colors are prepared with natural pigments "Iwa enogu", the same as those used in the traditional Japanese painting "Nihonga". The pigments are mixed with tree resin, which gives a unique transparency and a power of vitality to the colours.

Contemporary artist born in 1959 in Brussels, Patrick Gerola grew up in an artistic background, as his mother was a painter. Study for three years, the history and works of Pieter Breughel under the direction of his teacher Agnes Dekrom. 1983 Leaves Brussels in 1983 to live and work in Japan.
