About The Artwork

Point Lobos is a little piece of heaven just south of Carmel, California. My wife and I make an annual sojourn to Monterey, specifically the lovely colony of Pacific Grove, and for many years and many reasons had not visited Point Lobos. This year the excuses were gone, the weather was perfect, the park was open, and crowds were missing. Headland Cove is one of the many unique features of the park. The cove is surrounded by the steep volcanic rock where the water sneaks up to the black beach sand in long, languid waves. I'm standing on a small outcrop over the cove photographing the waves crashing over the rocks with typical short shutter speed and not being impressed with the results. I start trying different techniques and eventually realize how long the waves stretch on their journey to the beach expelling white froth in long lines cascading onto the shore. Increasing the exposure to capture the smooth motion of the rolling tide revealed this calming image of the crashing surf.

Stephen started when photography was done on film, and it was a black art of mystery. He was immediately drawn to the craft & process of photography and intrigued by the potential of capturing the world on a piece of paper. A life long Californian loving the wonders provided to the state, from the power of the sea to the majesty of the mountains he has captured the wonders of the state, and the world, for 50 years. Working as a commercial photographer, Stephen refined his skills working with studio lighting, location productions, and lifestyle imaging for local and national accounts. Retired now he is dedicated to fine art photography that explores the wonders of people, relationships, Christianity, and the world using creative and created imagery.
