I had been informed the lady of the house, left Scotland for America, 30 – 40 years ago, leaving all her possessions and the door unlocked. In driving rain and screaming wind I found the villa in dark, dense woodland. Crawling through the overgrowth I finally reached the entrance. Cautiously, I tried the door and yes it was unlocked. Entering with torchlight, I carefully and slowly studied the contents of each room. Empty suitcases lay throughout, indicating she was going to pack but decided against it. Photographs, books and trinkets lay scattered everywhere. As I climbed the stairs my torch shone on a set of false teeth lying on top of a tin. An old leather doctors bag lay discarded in a bedroom, where the bed had been made. Time stood still. Anonymous House – Written by Kenny Allan Crashing rain thunders the sidewalks, I see no light. Screaming trees cry the wind, Black forests shelter cowering feathers, A lonely house forgotten.
