Arnhem Land Billabong Photograph

After travelling on a boat tour, guided by local indigenous people, we were offered the opportunity to step off the boat into Arnhem Land. Arnhem Land is 91,000 square Kms of unspoilt landscape, controlled by the local elders. Access to this area is by permission only. On stepping off the boat, the first impression is one of calm serenity and peace. So quiet, it is truly like stepping back in time, to our natural past. It's like living history. This photo was taken of a billabong, very close to the East Alligator River, which is full of crocodiles. So it appears that it is a safe and shady place to get out of the relentless sun, but it has a hidden danger. As always in the Northern Territory, be crocwise.
