About The Artwork

On my recent trek to Nashville, I of course wandered up onto the iconic Shelby Street Bridge to make some shots of the Nashville skyline. This was a few weeks ago, mid-March, and it was a heavily overcast day, wind howling, weather frigid. I started off in a sleeveless T [Hey, I love the cold] but after a bit up there even I had to don the coat. I was making all sorts of shots from all sorts of vantage points, some using a tripod and filters for long-timed time-lapse shots and some simply hand-held at shorter exposure times. With the time-lapse you can afford to have crowds because by and large the individual people simply disappear from the frames. With shorter exposure times you need to pick and choose who might wander into the composition. While setting up some shots in this spot this kid came whizzing through a number of times on a motorized scooter and I managed to make some shots just as he rode through the frame. Thought it made for a cool Nashville skyline cityscape, especially with the famed Batman building all ears in the shot. Limited Edition, numbered and signed, offered on Hahnemhule Fine Art Pearl. Size is 21.9 x 8, 23.5 x 9.6 with borders. Also offered as an open edition print . . .

I'm a national award-winning journalist and nine-time Pulitzer nominee who's made hundreds of TV and radio appearances, including NPR and Good Morning America. Author of Swee'pea [Simon & Schuster / Atria], a critically acclaimed book centered around New York City playground basketball legend Lloyd (Swee'pea) Daniels, I've been featured in several documentary films -- including the Emmy Award-winning ESPN 30-for-30 Big Shot. While I've worked primarily as a sports reporter, news reporter, columnist and investigative journalist, I've also done travel writing and photography during a four-decade career at a major New York daily paper, and I'm currently shopping my first novel. This marks my first foray into selling my fine art photography . . . P.S. I've noticed that when it comes to calling up full screen versions of some photos they appear to lack clarity. PLEASE use the "Original" file -- especially, when you're looking at Open Edition prints -- because those files appear to be proper large-scale renditions. Hoping this gets rectified . . .
