I was born in South Africa and moved to Western Australia with my family when I was a young child and have been immersed in visual art & nature from a very young age. My greatest artistic influences come from nature, the mother of design and my parents. My passion for photography came from watching my father, a Doctor of Ecology, use his old Pentax film camera to document the diversity of the ecosystems he worked in, both in Africa and Australia. My mother Lynne, as inspired by the wild, has been a practicing/exhibiting artist for over 45 years. Studying photography at university I learnt the magic of using traditional analogue film. I was lucky to have experienced an end of an era as the new era of digital photography became mainstream. I have travelled extensively overseas and lived in some remote and wild places in Australia, NT, QLD and the Kimberly WA. But with a small family of my own now we have settled in the picturesque coastal town of Denmark, WA. Here, I finally have a chance to slow down and focus on the natural beauty around me and on my creative work. My work is inspired by the contrasting visuals of both abstraction and minimalism. The abstraction of nature, the kaleidoscope of quiet chaos where everything has its place, where I can dive into and get lost. And then I am equally drawn to minimalism where lines and silhouettes within the composition speak to each other in silent harmony. My work is a combination of images straight from my camera and/or manipulated in post production to create layers of texture to give a more painterly, expressionism feel.
