In a nice bowling area you just have a wonderful wide room, plenty of space for all kind of symmetries and clear lines. Perfect for a good panorama image. In the beginning of my documetary series I spend my time with searching for old landhouse pubs and b&b mansions on the country side with a small bowling alley (in former times it was - of course - very popular and has quite a long tradition). I was not really on the lucky side: many of these traditional establishments were closed because of a lack of demand, or better only the old people remain in the countryside, there is no business anymore.
So I started germanywide from north to south with my bowling areas, small places, medium size alleys, kingsize facilities. So many creative places with a lot of details and good ideas! Wonderful murals and paintings in many alleys, sometimes very sober and plain design.
Last century after WWII the conservative party made an advertising poster with this black and red lines warning with the danger of marxism. An art expert told me, when he first saw my pictures of the bowling alleys he directly associated them with this propaganda poster. Funny.
There are hundreds of bowling alleys in Germany, thousands in Europe, hundredthousand in the World – I have a lot of work to do!!! From Las Vegas to Tokyo, from Vienna to Moscow… would be nice!
With the years I guess I made hundreds of different bowling images. All pictures are photographed with my LINHOF Technorama 617IIIs in the format 6x17 cm. I use only KODAK PORTRA 160 negative.
It would make me happy if anybody out there wants to make a documentary photo book! However, first I would like to offer these images in a 11 limited edition.
You will get a C-Print semi-mat on Fuji Professional Paper, limited edition of 11, handsigned.
Due to SaatchiArt shipping policy and packaging conditions (guarantee) unfortunately I am not able to make any further printing and production (ALUDIBOND or Acryl front or frame) specialties, sorry. If you have different paper wishes, Hahnemühle or Canson, glossy, mat however please let me know, thanx!
