Calcutta Pregnant Dog Looking for Food - Limited Edition 1 of 20 Photograph

This photo was taken in India when I was visiting a friend in Calcutta. The neighborhood was vibrant and lively. I loved that all the animals living in the street, especially the dogs, were as an essential part of the colorful neighborhood as were its people. Dogs, cats, cows and birds lived peacefully with humans Each days various animals, i.e. cows, cats, dogs & birds, all visited the markets where the throw away food was found for them to feast on. The dogs were the lucky ones since they held residence on their chosen street where, I was told, that their family line may have lived there for 20 years or more. Though they were used to humans and lived with them peacefully, I was amazed at how shy they were when I tried to feed them. This particular photo struck me when I realized the dog was a she, and she was pregnant. It was a moment in time I just happened to capture. This was a typical garbage dump found throughout the residential area of Salt Lake, Calcutta which is one of the richest residential areas there. When purchasing tea or desserts outside the home, the unglazed pottery used for them is thrown away with all the other garbage. Image prints on White Glossy Paper with no border.
