The limestone quarry near Box – one of many in the area – was worked between 1830 and 1850. The stone was raised 100ft to the surface on chains driven by a horse gin. The decommissioned Cold War nuclear bunker nearby that was codenamed ‘Burlington’ or ‘Turnstile’, can be accessed from these tunnels.
