History of this airplane : Dakota F-AZOX : destined for the US Air Force, it was delivered in June 1945 to the Royal Air Force, then transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force. It has been used regularly by the Queen of England while traveling in Canada. This Douglas DC3 is equipped in a “VIP” version, which gives it a very special nostalgic charm. The Douglas resumed flight on October 31, 2009, after more than eight years of immobilization at Dinard. The Douglas DC3 (civil designation) or C47 (military designation) or even Dakota (nickname given by the Royal Air Force) made its first flight in December 1935. Born in California, in Santa Monica, he embodies modern air transport, reliable, comfortable, modern resolution and efficient. Transformed into a military aircraft for the needs of the war, the DC3 became C47 Skytrain, is notably, the hero of June 6, 1944 by dropping the American paratroopers of the 101st and 82nd Airborne, the day before the Normandy landings. It has also been used in all theaters of operations, in the Pacific, Burma, Russia. It transports French pilots from Normandy-Niemen, from Tehran to Ivanovo. Symbol of Liberation, the silhouette of the DC3 has become a modern icon just like the Jeep. Produced in more than 13,000 copies, the DC3 wrote the pages of modern air transport and paved the way for single-aisle aircraft of the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737 type, of which it is the "father". Almost every airline in the world operated this type of aircraft in the aftermath of the Second World War and for more than 30 years, this aircraft was the basis for the reconstruction of air transport. www.loicdorez.com
