About The Artwork

This image is entitled 'Destination Rio Grande'. Produced in the Bolivian desert, this image is a poignant example of how more than a century ago - the advent of railways opened access to hinterlands across the globe. This was an extraordinary location to work at; hot, dusty and just awe inspiring in its scale. A broadly featureless landscape edged with a dramatic skyline of distant hills. The rails themselves converge deep into the desert's late afternoon haze. Laid in the late nineteenth-century yet still in use to this day, this railway line is testimony to the navvies who endured extreme working conditions through its construction. How daunting must it have been for those people who traversed these harsh, remote places before the railways were laid? An overwhelming memory of this location was of its complete silence; no road traffic, no aircraft overhead, no people, not even a faint breeze, just complete and beautiful silence. Only when exposed to 'complete silence' is it possible to appreciate its rarity. ‘Destination Rio Grande’ was captured using a full-frame Canon DSLR camera. This image is sold unframed, the size of the actual printed image of this artwork is 42.8" x 17.48” This print comes with a 2” white border on which the artists signature features on the lower right hand corner. Printed on exhibition quality Premium Matte photographic paper, signed and numbered by the artist, this artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity. Your print will be shipped rolled securely inside a shipping tube.

Photography; it's THE most fantastic medium, I adore it, and I hope this is evident in my work. Born near Winchester in the UK, I've been a resident of London for most of the past three decades. Since June 1983 - when I spent my entire first salary on my first SLR camera - photography has been an intrinsic part of both my life and of who I am. Photography it isn't just about taking great imagery, importantly, it has made me intimately aware of the world around us. As an art-form, photography creates an enormous opportunity to tell a story. Not only can I explore the present, but through montage techniques, as is evident through my exhibition 'Recovering The Past', it enables me to link the past with the present. As an artist, this gives me the opportunity to explore almost anything imaginable. Photography never ceases to excite me, I very much hope that my work does so to you too.
