Art Description

Photography: Color, Digital, Photo on Paper.

All originals are signed and numbered copies printed with HDR archival inks on archival matte paper.

This photograph is one in a series called "1964 Dodge 318", a collection of photographs taken during my disassembly of an old Dodge pickup truck engine.

I became inspired for this series of photographs when looking through a collection of old photographs of tools taken by Walker Evans. In those photographs he managed to elevate simple work tools into objets d'art, and in doing that transmitting a different understanding of those items.

I often look to understand life and objects in new ways through examination in my art practice, looking towards the garage as a place where a father and son once shared information and experiences through hands on work. Through lenses of nostalgia and quasi-scientific study I hope to reveal something unseen or unconsidered before.

The 1964, polyhead 318 was a workhorse of an engine but it was not the fast and glamorous HEMI that is desired by so many car enthusiasts. It's for this reason I felt it needed a second look to reveal some of its more hidden beauties.
