About The Artwork

"Epilobium latifolium" A good friend once told me that every flower must break through layers upon layers of dirt before it can bloom. This series is about the journey of courage, strength and persistence even through the darkest of times. I was interested in working with the body as a canvas and creating the illusion that the body had images painted or projected onto the skin. The poses showcase the upward movement of energy, similar to a flower breaking through the ground in the spring. Each image is titled with the Latin name of the flower or plant that is encasing the model, many of which are native to or were photographed in Alaska. This series is ongoing.

Sarah is pursuing a bachelor of fine arts with a concentration in photography and film at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Born in Carson City, NV and raised in Honduras on the island of Roatán- traveling, culture and language have been a large part of her life. For the past 6 years, she has lived in Alaska. She currently works as the assistant photographer for the University of Alaska Fairbanks under Chief Photographer, JR Ancheta. She is also a staff photographer and social media manager for the UAF College of Liberal Arts. When Sarah first relocated North she was a tour guide with Northern Alaska Tour Company. She operated a 25 passenger coach on the infamous Dalton Highway and took visitors to the Arctic Circle and beyond. In addition to her documentary and marketing work, she also photographs the nude female figure. Much of her work revolves around form studies and is a contemporary take on boudoir photography. She is involved in the body-positive movement and her goal is to create beautiful images of women that will empower them and shape a more confident sense of ownership and pride of their bodies.
