A theme of always being on the way somewhere, though never quite arriving. Definition of Utopia: ‘an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect’. The intention of this project was to go on a journey both in the physical and mental sense to explore the idea of utopia. My findings supported the premise that utopia doesn’t exist in the physical world because perfection is unattainable. If the utopia I was seeking was a physical place, then my arrival in such a pre-meditated place was met with disappointment on some level. What I came to realise, however, is the ability of the mind to harness an imagined state of utopia and bring it into the present moment. To this end I believe it is therefore possible to experience a perfect moment, a moment captured in one’s mind in which the sense of being on the way to utopia, can actually be utopia itself. Whenever I felt connected to such a moment I made a photograph.
