Vegetal skeletons of fossil fire. Solar energy and dormant life. Coal is our main source of energy, and also the most polluting. Fortunately in the last few years humans are developing technologies to obtain more clean energy out of coal, that mitigate its harmful environmental effect. But mainly, it is a legacy of Earth's past, written in black fragments of his bowels. They preserve the energy that plants captured from the Sun 200 million years ago, converted into chemical energy kept intact until today. It is an heritage of energy, generously bequeathed by our planet. Very often we have been ungrateful, and have simply pulled it out of the ground to burn, without a second look at the medium- and long-term consequences for its health. Pieces of energy and life, located in tiny corners of our microcosm, expressed in my captures as minuscule traces that tell us about extinct plant species, buried among its rich funerary treasures: the vital energy obtained from the particles carrying sunlight. And are again the quanta of light, ones that when they impact on these traces, reveal us the suggestive microlandscapes narrate us this important story carved in rock. REAL SIZE of the subject of the artwork: 3.0 x 4.5 mm (0.12 x 0.18 in). As a medium I use the digital photography with the help of a microscope. This series belongs to the project "sun, earth, energy, climate change", for more information please check out: www.antonioromero-fineart.com _ ARTWORK FEATURED IN A CURATED PUBLICATION This collection was featured, on May 28, 2017, in the curated magazine LensCulture (Netherlands, USA, France), feature: "Sun, Earth, Energy, Life: Coal". www.lensculture.com/antonio-romero www.lensculture.com/articles/antonio-romero-sun-earth-energy-life-coal _

I define my author projects, more visual than discursive, like "Quiet and pleasant strolls through the microcosm of human: microspaces of a parallel universe of emotional energy." Like processes that take place in our creative mind of logic gates with switches of colors. The creative mind: the completely "irrational" and so exclusive trait of the homo sapiens. - In my teenage years, I observed to the microscope a thin slice of rock that contained an astounding amount of microfossils of single-cell animals, petrified hundreds of millions of years ago, but still telling about their morphology, their habitat, their staggering biodiversity, and their role in our evolutionary history. Their narration took the form of microlandscapes of endless mass graves full of delicate recumbent beings. I felt the need to retain that moment in my memory capturing it with a photograph. My pictures want be an unedited vision across suggestive and baffling parallel-universe, unknown but very close: tiny corners of an infinite reality. I wish to share these snapshots with other naked eyes, viewers diving into them and promenading through them leisurely: in a symbiosis of aesthetic experience, cognitive process and also a reflection on the theme of those artworks, speaking to us about our technoscience present which is writing our future. As a medium for my artistic production, I use the digital photography (fine art pigment prints) with the help of a microscope.
