Frozen Stories #6 From the set: “Frozen Stories” Kanyakumari, India Limited Edition Archival Print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® 308g matte paper mounted on a 3mm Dibond board 29” x 35” | Edition 3 of 6 Kanyakumari is a small fishing village at the most southern tip of the Indian mainland. In Kanyakumari life is concentrated around water, literally and metaphorically. The waters of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean meet there. Water also supplies all needs of Kanyakumari inhabitants: hygienic (morning bath and laundry), economic (water is a source of income for fishermen and pearl hunters) and spiritual ones. Every day a large crowd gathers at the waterside to welcome and bid farewell to the sun, to meditate or to pray. In 2004 Kanyakumari was affected by the tsunami, which devastated Southeast Asia. My intention was to create a photographic impression about the metaphysical relation between a man and water.

My name is Marcin Żuberek, I was born in 1979, I am living and working in Warsaw, Poland. The phenomenons that attract me most in my photographic work are: empty spaces and noisy silence. I love all kinds of exploration. Peripheries of the map have been always my favourite destination point (maybe because apart from being photographer, I am also anthropologist;)). How does it feel like living on the edge of the cartographic grid? How does a place at the forgotten end of the map look like? Usually, my intention is to create a visual impression about the metaphysical relation between a land that we are physically connected with and an open, neverending space where our minds are floating. My works are in-between documentary and creation made later on, in postproduction. Apart from my love for digital technology, I remain a faithfully user of analogue cameras (mostly Mamiya 7). Space and form are also a common theme in my commercial work as an interior and architecture photographer.
