Coney Island can seem as real as the exhilaration of riding front-row on the Cyclone roller coaster. It can become as dreamy as a noir film when the fog rolls in and you're suddenly in the starring role, walking the shiny wet streets as groups of late beach-goers take over the sidewalks in laughter and conversation. Ghosts of Coney Island allows a portal to a stretch of land in Brooklyn where time is fixed in perspective but layered in dimension. There are ghost everywhere, but if I had to hang out with them, I'd be in Coney Island. It's very difficult attempting to verbally describe what it feels like being in Coney Island. It's like how when you see something that catches your eye you turn to who you're with and say,"look at that!" Every] time I'm there I want others to experience it. It's a place that I’ve always been intrigued with. I want to show who the people are that make Coney Island what it is. Each image is its own story, all vital elements of what draws me to this collective energy. I'm originally from Brooklyn, New York and have lived in both Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn and Manhattan Beach Brooklyn which is just down the road from Coney Island with only Brighton Beach in between. I love the people who live there, work there and who visit. I think about all the history contained on this small stretch of land and feel honored to be a part of it whenever I'm there. My series, Coney Island Love Affair is an ongoing project of mine which I started in the summer of 2000. I can't think of a better way to spend a summer day in Brooklyn. My work is a combination of moments captured and scenes created. When I see something that catches my eye and I say, "look at that!" I capture it, to then set it free and share with the world. I also allow myself to experiment and see how I can push boundaries and challenge "traditional" expectations of what photography looks like as an attempt to broaden an understanding of the power of influence and perspective in our everyday lives.
