About The Artwork

“Shooting the glass, “perlere e impiraresse” di Tommaso Pitton Some Pictures of women representing two typical Venitian female professions, almost extinct, related to glass. The glass created from silica sand fused by fire. “Perlére”, women who use fire to create pearls melting the glass. “Impirarésse” women who, with skill and patience, string the pearls to decorate clothes, objects, etc. The glass beads are used as decoration therefore, decoration of the body. The glass pearls on the skin, remind us of African decorations, made by inserting "pearls" under the skin. A black woman is adorned with siliceous sand, sand distributed according to precise tribal signs that follow the lines of the body. Fire that transforms sand into glass. Glass pearls, decorate the body.
