"When observing these photographs it is possible to imagine another time when the personal and at times painful histories of very different people intersected these same places, intertwining with the destiny of their city and even their countries. An existing rift between private and public can be sensed, the disproportion and the separation between humanist thought and efficient/industrial thought. De Marco in his work unearths the space of important functional architecture, joining the past with the present, while shaping the future. He also reveals the absence of men, of their toil and pain, showing how the only thing remaining of their aspirations is some old control panel, rust and emptiness, both physical and sensed; useless architectural structures in the process of disintegration."
