About The Artwork
This series of American landscapes are drawn from long roads and working class towns across America. Hopkins was traveling through rural Wisconsin as a journalist when this image was taken driving through a rural county highway. The flag pictured was hung to a chain link fence separating the privately owned forest from the highway. The intersection between nature and human culture, especially as it applies to the sociopolitical landscape of the American rural, is a major subject of Hopkins' investigation as an artist.
