About The Artwork

The #HomemadeLandscape photography series critically questions our relationship to place, measurement, and the sublime in our increasingly networked yet disconnected society. The macro-photographs challenge traditional notions of the of the sublime as defined by the philosopher Immanuel Kant — the pleasurable feeling that arises when one overcomes the fear of encountering an object in nature whose magnitude is beyond what we can calculate. The artworks offer a more feminine take on the sublime: the feeling of awe that arises when one pauses in the immeasurableness of the intimate. The scenes are of intimate moments encountered by the artist, often unconstructed and found in her Brooklyn apartment, that reveal the feeling of the sublime as it occurs in everyday life. The artworks are posted on Instagram and geo-tagged as an other “sublime” location, treating the social media platform as both an art medium and subject. There are over 100 artworks in this series, a selection of which is shown here. Please enquire to see entire collection.

My artworks critically and playfully challenge our relationship to the tug that exists between measurement and lived experience, the rational and the sensuous. Drawing from my current research in philosophy and aesthetics and nearly twenty years of professional experience in the fields of architecture and graphic design, I create artworks in multiple mediums from drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and installation to public art commissions, interactive events, curating, and writing. Born in Buffalo, aged in Philadelphia, and seasoned in Australia, Scotland, and New York City, a curiosity and love of place has been a constant inspiration since childhood. What began as an artistic inquiry into the "tug" of place has grown into a broader examination of this tug in language, the feminine, time, and notions of truth. The artworks are often laced with a subtle humor and draw attention to the sense of wonderment in everyday life.
