Much of my work documents Los Angeles, which includes a fair number of the automobile culture that describes the very fabric of its being. My goal for a successful car photo is that it is only sort of about the car itself. La Sirena used to make great sport of dashing those poor sailor's boats upon her rocks. But now she's maybe just working for a living, like the rest of us. An archival pigment print on Canson Rag Photographique paper from a 4x5 film negative. A nice drum scan. Canson Rag Photographique is a beautiful matte finish paper I use when I want to depart a little from a photographic reality. image size approximately 13 1/4" x19" on 17"x22" paper Printed on a heavy mat finish rag paper to enhance the graphic quality of this seascape atop the hood of a car Print #1 from Edition II of 25 prints Edition I of 25 prints (1-25) in 16"x20" size gelatin silver print Edition II of 25 prints (1-25) in 17"x22" size archival pigment print + 2 A/P for a total of 52 prints in all sizes this print is not framed

I have worked most of my professional life in the movies. That experience has left me with an instinct toward a narrative in my photos. Not always as a straightforward story, but at least as a structure to organize pieces of an image to work together. I look to elevate the mundane in my work, to create an image that rewards repeated visits. Much of my work is a continuing portrait of Los Angeles. I moved to Los Angeles as a young man to go to UCLA Film School, and it turned into a lifelong adventure. I have collected some in my self-published book “Small Pieces of Los Angeles briefly Illuminated”.
