About The Artwork

When the London Avenue and Seventeenth Street Canals' floodwalls collapsed in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, the city was inundated with over ten feet of water in the Lakeview neighborhood. It stayed there for several months until it was finally pumped out, gallon by gallon. The pumping delays, all evincing grotesque political maneuvering by local and national politicians, resulted in every wall, everywhere, being marked with a long brown line. The lines don't lie. The lines show you how slowly the water was pumped out. The lines show you how high the water went.
